This reproduction of the gorgeous San Damiano Crucifix is faithful to the original, which hangs in Santa Chiara Basilica in Assisi, Italy. Saint Francis prayed before the original Crucifix there and received his commission to rebuild the church.
Jesus Christ is represented here as both wounded and strong, upright and resolute despite the wounds He carries. The Major and Minor witness are represented around Him. Above Him, the heavenly host welcome Him as He enters into heaven. The Patron Saints of Umbria sit at the foot of the cross and the entire cross is surrounded with calligraphic scrolls and gold accents. This Crucifix, one of our Italian imports, is made of wood and stands thirty inches tall.
Not only is this Crucifix resplendent, it is a beautiful teaching tool.
