Stanley Rother was a Catholic priest from Oklahoma. In 1968 he applied for and was accepted to a missionary post in Guatemala. Unswerving in faith and devoted to his missionary work, Father Stanley remained devoted to his flock despite persecution, even returning there only to be murdered 1981. In 2016, Pope Francis declared his death "in odium fidei" which means "in hatred for the faith", paving the way for his beatification.
Maria Ruiz Scaperlanda tells his story. Father Stanley said, "The shepherd cannot run at the first sign of danger". He was true to his word. In The Shepherd Who Didn't Run, Maria offers a biography of the heroic priest who loved God, His Church, and His people.
