Saint Francis Xavier's story began back in the sixteenth century, when he befriended Ignatius of Loyola. Together, the two men and others formed the Society of Jesus, known nowadays as the Jesuits. It is interesting to know that after being sent to India, Francis Xavier was obedient in ministering to many people who were former criminals. He learned so well from that challenge that he continued to travel on to Japan and Indonesia, spreading the Good News despite persecution of Christians. He is the patron saint of Catholic Missions.
