St. Blaise was a skilled physician in the 4th century. He was known for his kindness and passion for treating both people and animals. Blaise had a unique skill for treating throat illnesses and injuries. Several miraculous healings are attributed to him; once, he rescued a young boy who was choking on a bone. As bishop, Blaise led his fellow Christians during a time of brutal persecution and was ultimately martyred for his faith.
